The B-BBEE ICT Sector Council has approved the application for recognition of the Numeric Company’s Mathematics Scheme as an ICT SED initiative

STATEMENT FROM THE B-BBEE ICT SECTOR COUNCIL

The B-BBEE ICT Sector Council (Council) has approved the application for recognition of the Numeric Company’s Mathematics Scheme as an ICT SED initiative, in accordance with Clause 4.1 of Statement 500 of the Amended ICT Sector Code Series 500 (AICT500) which requires that all (qualifying) SED spend must be spent on ICT Sector specific initiatives.

Basis for recognition:

  1. Any career in ICT requires a solid foundational understanding in mathematics. Numeric upskills learners and future teachers to better develop the next generation of ICT experts.
  2. Numeric uses an online platform to train the teaching interns on maths content as well as to teach them an ICT tool that can be used in their classrooms.
  3. Numeric is contracted by the University of Johannesburg to train first year Bachelor of Education students in maths content.
  4. Numeric currently operates in Khayelitsha, Mfuleni, and Mitchells Plain in Cape Town and in Soweto in Johannesburg, and will be expanding to KwaZulu Natal in 2019.
